Practice questions

1. First reach the intersection, then turn left. What comes first?

Answer: 사거리까지 똑바로 가요.

Follow the instruction introduced by 먼저 first.

  • 왼쪽으로 돌아요. — Left is the following action.
  • 은행으로 가요. — This model is not the bank route.

2. You face north at the exit and walk to the intersection. What is to your left?

Answer: 카페

Facing north, the café is on the map’s left.

  • 우체국 — The post office is beside the exit at the bottom.
  • 은행 — The bank is right.

3. You turned right at the intersection to reach the bank. Which way are you now facing?

Answer: East, map right

A right turn from north points east.

  • North, map up — That was before the right turn.
  • West, map left — That would be a left turn.

4. Library route: exit → intersection → bank → library. Correct order?

Answer: Straight→right→left

Follow each turn starting north.

  • Left→straight→right — The first action is straight.
  • Straight→left→left — Left at the intersection goes to the café.

Learning check

1. What does 그다음 signal?

Answer: The following step

그다음 is a sequencing expression.

  • A station name — It is not a place name.
  • Always north — It does not specify a direction.

2. Facing east at the bank, turn left to the library. Which way do you move?

Answer: Up the map

Left from east is north.

  • Down the map — A right turn from east points down.
  • Left across the map — Personal left is not always map left.

3. What does 사거리까지 mean?

Answer: As far as the intersection

까지 marks the segment endpoint here.

  • Past it to the end — Further movement needs the next instruction.
  • Start at the intersection — 까지 marks the end of this segment, not the starting point.

4. You wanted the library but reached the café. Which turn differed?

Answer: Left instead of right at the intersection

The café and bank lie on opposite sides.

  • Right instead of left at the bank — Facing east at the bank, turning right leads toward the post office.
  • Right first at the exit — Right immediately from the exit leads toward the post office.

5. You do not know whether to turn left or right. Ask.

Answer: 어느 쪽으로 가요?

어느 쪽으로 asks which direction.

  • 얼마나 걸려요? — This asks duration, not which way to turn.
  • 어디에서 갈아타요? — This asks a transfer location; this situation needs a walking direction.

6. New instruction: first to the intersection, then right to the bank. Where does it end?

Answer: 은행

No further turn to the library has been given.

  • 도서관 — Do not invent a further segment.
  • 약국 — There is no instruction toward the pharmacy.
